Have you ever wondered what a Postpartum Doula does or what is involved in POSTPARTUM CARE.

The role and duties of a Postpartum Doula varies, just as the needs of the family may vary. A significant part of Postpartum Doula’s role is education, support, and care for new and expanding families. Doula's are often a hub of information about infant care, breastfeeding support, community resources, and more!

Their attention is focused on the mother’s recovery and healing, which might also include assisting and encouraging innovative ways for siblings and partners to support the new mother and navigate changes in their family’s dynamics.

An example of what a postpartum visit might entail:

* Consultation with the family to determine highest priorities

* Assisting the mother with breastfeeding (if applicable), including pumping an/or educating the partner or siblings on how to best offer their support during this time.

*If bottle feeding is being used then guidance in sterilization, preparing, safe handling & storage of bottles.

* Prep or prepare a meal or meals for the family

*Assisting mother with belly binding or other support aids

* Help decorate or create nursing, pumping, or diaper changing areas around the home

* Do a couple loads of laundry, including if the family has chosen to use cloth diapers

* Watch the baby while the parent(s) takes a nap or shower

* Assist the parent(s) how to wear the baby or tools to make transport easier

* Help mama create a postpartum physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual care plan to facilitate healing and recovery

* Assist with older siblings while parent(s) bond with the new baby

* caring for the family pet or pets

* Grocery shopping and running errands

* basically anything the clients need or request help with.
